DESCRIPTION

In 1964, Larry Henley joined brothers Dean and Marc in recording a song that Lawrence Parks & Jay Turnbow had written entitled “Bread And Butter". A demo of the song, by the two writers, was first recorded at Ben Hall Studio in Big Spring and later the hit version by the Newbeats at CBS Studio Quansut Hut in Nashville. Larry first met Dean and Marc when he stepped from the audience in Shreveport, LA to sing a number with them during a concert. The crowd response was so good, he was invited to join them and they became The Newbeats. Back in 1959, Dean and Marc had recorded "Tell Her No" that reached #42 on the Pop Charts. "Bread and Butter" went all the way to #2 in August of 1964. The Newbeats followed their initial sucess with three more top 40 hits. Larry would later write a beautiful romantic song for his wife that was recorded in 1983 by Gary Morris reaching #4 on the country charts. Then in 1988 this same song was featured on the original soundtrack of the movie "Beaches", recorded by Bette Midler. Her recording would reach #1 in the Pop Charts with the album selling 3 million copies. "Wind Beneath My Wings” was both the Country Music Association & The Academy of Country Music “Song of the Year”. It won a Grammy for “Song of the Year” and “Record of the Year”. In 1990 The Nashville Songwriter’s Association named Larry their “Songwriter of the Year”. In 2008 the song received a BMI Award for 7 million radio airplays. Larry attended high school and junior college in Odessa, Texas.
