Slim Hit The Musical Jack Pot Of Jack Pots, In 1952, When Perry Como Covered His "Don't Let The Stars Get In Your Eyes" There Is Some Controversy Related To The Song (16 Wks. In The Top Pop 10) Slim's Version, On 4-Star Records, Had Reached #1 In The Country Field, And Hung Around For 23 Weeks. But Wait, There's More, Slim Willet's #1 For 1 Wk. In Country Wasn't The Biggest, Skeets McDonald's Version Was #1 For 3 Wks. And Then There Was Ray Price's Version In At #4 And Then Red Foley In At #8 Plus #25 On Pop. Are We Finished? Well, Not Quite. Goldie Hill's Version (From The Womens's Side) #1 For 3 Wks. And Over In The Pop Field Another Version By Keely Smith And Yet Another By Giselle MacKenzie Plus Another Hundred Or So On Albums And 45's. Before All Of This Slim Was A Popular Abilene D.J.Who Also Had A Western Swing Band "The Hired Hands". His "Tool Pusher From Snyder" Recording Had Been A Regional Favorite (Also Performed By Lefty Frizzell & The Westerners At The Ace Of Clubs In Big Spring) And He Later Co-Wrote, With Dean Beard, Another Regional Hit "Party Party". During These Times People Around The Big Country Were Not Accustomed To A Local Personality Writing And Recording A National Double-Crossover With Um-teen Different Artist All At Once, Smash Hit. Winston Lee Moore Would Enjoy A Lot Of Notoriety Plus Raking In Some Big Bucks (Record Sales, Juke Box Plays,Writer's Royalties, Publishing, Sheet Music, Plus Personal Appearances) His Favorite Subjects: Oil Booms, Honky Tonks, Mexico, Waltzes, With One In Particular Co-Written With Smokey Donaldson, The Abilene Waltz. BMI Records Indicate He Did Co-Write With Or Shared Writer's Credits With Many Others In The Area. The Slim Willet Shows, On KRBC TV Plus The Big State Jamboree Were Instrumental In Helping Many Of The Area's Singers Get Exposure Including The Gatlin Brothers & Tommy Overstreet. Slim Was A Music Pioneer And A One-Of-A-Kind Talent. Winston Lee Moore (Slim) Was Inducted Into The DJ Hall Of Fame In Nashville.
The Korean War In The Early Fifties Provided Good Timing For The Song, "Don't Let The Stars Get In Your Eyes, Don't Let The Moon Break Your Heart... For Love Blooms At Night And Daylight It Dies So Don't Let The Stars Get In Your Eyes Just Keep Your Heart For Me, And Someday I'll Return, And You Know You're The Only One I Will Ever Love"
