Red Steagall enjoyed a career in Agricultural Chemistry after graduating
from West Texas State University. He then spent 8 years as a music industry executive in Hollywood and then 30 years as a recording artist, songwriter, TV and motion picture personality. Although Red is best known for his Texas Swing music and songs like “Lone Star Beer And Bob Wills Music” “Party Dolls And Wine” he is beloved by Texas Cowboys for the quite times spent with him around camp fires. Red has written over 200 songs including the title song for The National Final Rodeo telecast along with the movies: Vanishing Point, Drive-In, Shadows On The Wall, Savannah Smiles and Dark Before Dawn. He has had 26 charted Country records along with being a regular on “Music Country U.S.A.”
In 1991 he produced the motion picture “Big Bad John” starring Jimmy Dean.
In 1991 he recited “The Cowboy’s Prayer” at the National Breakfast in Washington that included the president and Mrs. Bush, Rev Billy Graham and reps from 140 nations. He has won The Wrangler Award for original music 5 times from The National Cowboy & Heritage Museum in Oklahoma. He discovered Country singer Reba McEntire when she sang The National Anthem at The National Rodeo Finals in Oklahoma City in 1974. Red Steagall was inducted into The Texas Cowboy Hall Of Fame in Ft Worth, Texas. Red has devoted his life to the preservation of the Western style. |
