MASON WILLIAMS

Mason Williams Was born In Abilene, Texas Spending Some Of His Very Early Years In The Small Town Of Rule 50 Miles North.  He Grew Up In Oklahoma And Oregon Attending Oklahoma City University Majoring In Music.  After Helping To Form The Wayfarers Trio He Dropped Out Of College To Perform Full-Time.  After Serving In The Navy And Being Stationed In San Diego He Decided To Remain In California.  He Then Became A Writer Of  Songs & Books Which Led To His First Big Break As A TV Writer For The Roger Miller Show.  His Working Relationship With The Smothers Brothers And Close Personal Ties To Tom Smothers Eventually Helped Him Become A Writer And Emmy Award Winner For The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour.  In The Early 70's Mason Returned To Live Full-Time In His Childhood Home, Near A Mountain Trout Stream, In Oregon.  In 1980 He Became The Head Writer For Saturday Night Live.  Since 1982 He Has Continued To Perform Around The Country "Bluegrass For Symphony " And "Rivers Flowing" A Program Composed Entirely Of Music And Song Giving Rivers And Water Their Own Environmental Voice (Performing with Over 40 Symphony Orchestras).  In 1968 He Won Two Grammy Awards For His Unique Guitar Composition "Classical Gas" That Reached #2 On The Pop Charts (A 3rd Grammy Was Won For Best Instrumental Orchestra Arragement), and is the BMI all time top airplay instrumental (3 Million airplays).  In 1988 His "Country Idyll" Recording Received A Grammy Nomination For Best Instrumental Performance (Country Music Category).  To Date He Has Recorded 12 Albums, Received 16 Major Awards/Nominations And In 1996 Receiving An Honorary Doctor Of Music From Oklahoma City University.
