JUSTIN TUBB

Justin Was The Oldest Son Of Ernest Tubb And A Member Of The Grand Ole Opry For Over 35 Years.  He Didn't Use His Dad As A Stepping Stone For Success (Just His Genes) As  Justin Was A Writer Of 6 BMI Award Winning Songs.  He Actually Got His Start Writing An Award  Song For His Dad "Be Better To Your Baby".  Justin Was Born In San Antonio And First Sang On KGKL Radio In San Angelo At The Age Of 4.  He Put Together His Own Group, While Attending Texas University, Playing Clubs In And Around Austin.  From Austin He Moved To Nashville Becoming A DJ On WHIN Radio In Nearby Gallatin.  It Was During This Time He Recorded His Biggest Hit With Goldie Hill "Looking Back To See" #4 In 1954.  In 1963 He Had Another Top Ten Hit "Take A Letter Miss Gray".  Justin Has Travelled Most Of The 50 States, Europe And The Far East.  In The Nineties Justin Took A Liking To The Little Town Of Brady, Texas Enjoying The Down Home Friendly Folks And Guesting On KNEL Radio's Weekly Hillbilly Hits Program.  Everyone Was Saddened By His Recent Untimely Death In Nashville.  One Of Country Music's Most Talented Singers/Songwriters And According To Tracy Pitcox, Radio Personality At KNEL, One Of The Most Likable.

SAMMY LARA & THE SKY TONES

Singer-Songwriter SAMMY LARA And His Band, THE SKYTONES, Were A Part Of The West Texas Music Scene When Rock Was Young (The Fab Fifties). Sammy Wrote And Recorded A Regional Hit, Mr. Moon, b/w Silly Sally.  In The Early Sixties Two More Of His Songs, You Need Me & Impossible, Received Spins (Certified) On American Bandstand.  Today, Sammy's Son, Ricky, Carries On The Family Tradition With A Combination Tex-Mex Rock-A-Billy Sound Which Includes,Of Course, His Access To All Of Sammy's 80 Song Repertoire.  Sammy Says: "Thanks For Honoring Him (The 1997 Pioneer Award Winner) And Sends His Best Regards To All The Area Musicians"  Today Sammy Lara Resides In His Home Town Of San Angelo, Texas.  (The Following Year, 1998, Sammy Passed Away)
