When We Think Of Fess Parker We Automatically Think Of The Walt Disney Davy Crockett Movies & The Daniel Boone TV Series.  The Movie Davy Crockett Ignited One Of The Wildest And Craziest Pop-Cultures In American History.  Davy Crockett Was The Hero Of Our Baby Boomer Generation.  The Song Itself Sold Ten (Yep, That's 10) Million Records.  Fess Parker's Version Reached #5  Selling 5 Million and Cover Versions (Bill Hayes Version Sold 2 &1/2 Million  #1 For 5 Weeks) Made Up The Rest.  In All There Were 41 Different Versions Including Tennessee Ernie Ford At #10.  "Davy, Davy Crockett King Of The Wild Frontier" Blasted The Airways Across America In 1955.  Big As The Beatles In the 60's?  If Not It Was Close..  Coon Skin Caps On Children And Adults Alike, Coon Skin Tails On Car Antennas, Davy Crockett Lunch Boxes, Watches, Rings, Toys, Clothes And You Name It.  Every Raccoon In The Country Had To Run for It's Life.  Fess Parker Was Born In Ft. Worth And At One Time Lived In The West Texas Cities Of  San Angelo And Abilene Attending Hardin Simmons University.  He Later Attended The University Of Texas.  Presently Lives In Santa Barbara And Will Up-Date When We Get More On This Rich & Famous Celebrity From West Texas.

Clark Wynne

While Other Area Musicians, Including Ernest Tubb, Were Getting Exposure By Playing Radio Shows In San Angelo Clark Did It A Little Different...He Got Married On KGKL.  Clark Wynne (Sax & Clainet) & The Melody Men Played For The Very First Miss Wool Contest, The Opening Of Bocat Stadium (56') "Save The Colts Night" At Colt Stadium (6000 People) Backing, Former Pitching Great, Dizzy Dean Singing Wabash Cannon Ball, Webb AFB In Big Spring, And Numerous Other Big Band Bookings Throughout West Texas.  Clark Had Moved To San Angelo From Olney And Was First A Radio Announcer For KGFI (Became KGKL).  His First Band, With Harold Bloom & Jake Houston, Was Called "The San Angelo Cowboys" With Clark Doing The Singing.  Both Of Clark's Sons, Jack At Age 12 On Drums & Jim On Sax  Became Members Of His Bands.  Jim Wynne Would Later Attend College In Abilene While Playing Week-Ends With The 63' Cavaliers & In 64' Piano On "Last Kiss"  Clark Was A 3 Time President Of The Local Musician's Union And In 1966 Retired From The Postal Service.
