DELBERT McCLINTON

Delbert McClinton honed his craft by working in a bar band called “The Straitjackets”, backing blues giants Jimmy Reed, Howlin’ Wolf, Lightning Hopkins and Sonny Williamson. He made his first recordings as a member of The Ron-Dels” and was later noted for his distinctive harmonica work on Bruce Channels #1 hit “Hey, Baby”. While on tour in the UK he met a young John Lennon advising him on his harmonica technique that would later be heard on “Love Me Do” by The Beatles. Relocating to Los Angeles in the early 70’s, he emerged in a partnership with fellow Texan Glen Clark performing a combination of Country and Soul recording 2 albums. In 1978 Emmylou Harris had a #1 hit recording his composition “Two More Bottles Of Wine”. His B movie “Boxcar Blues” was used in the 1980 movie “The Blues Brothers”. His 1980 album release “The Jealous Kind” contained his #8 Pop single “Giving It Up For your Love”. After a rest period during most of the 80’s he returned in 1989 with the fiery album “Live From Austin” that had been taped from a live performance from The Austin City Limits TV show. In 1991 he won a Grammy for his duet with Bonny Raitt “Good Man, Good Woman”. His duet with Tanya Tucker in 1993 reached #5 in the Country charts. Delbert McClinton was born in Lubbock, Texas.
