Black Soul Singer, John Maberry, Was San Angelo's All-Time Top Showman. In The Sixties He Was "The Sirs" (An All White Band) Lead Singer. Saturday Nights Would Find The Group Playing To Capacity Crowds At The 13th Hour. John, In Early 1964, Took J. Frank Wilson's Place As Lead Singer For The Cavaliers. When J. Frank Was Re-instated, In Order To Record Last Kiss, John Went Back To Doing What He Does Best...Singing Soul Music With "The Sirs"..."Hold On I'm Coming" Papa's Got A Brand New Bag" "Tell It Like It Is" "Knock On Wood" "The Midnight Hour" "I Feel Good Good" "Stormy Monday" Etc. Jimmie Stewart (On Electric Organ) Had A Nice Singing Voice Himself And Would Sing Some Of The Current Pop And R&B Songs. Jimmy Wheeler (Bass) And Jackie Baldwin (Drums) Laid Down The Driving Rhythm Section. During The Sixties Roland Atkinson, Sid Holmes, & Calvin Bell Shared The Lead Guitar Spot. When The Late Hours Arrived (Back Then It Was The Very Late Hour Of 10:00 PM) John Would Make His Entrance Through The Back Door And Up To The Microphone To Do His "Thing"...Screaming Out The Songs & Working Himself Into A Frenzy, Lying On The Bandstand Floor Etc. Etc. Driving All The Girls Wild..."I Feel Good...Cause I Knew I Would...(Who Needs James Brown) Cause I Got You" (Sunday Nights Would Find This Same Group Playing 4 Hours To Packed Crowds...In An All Black Club) The Joint Started Jumping Folks When John Came Through The Back Door.
