STUART HAMBLIN
Stuart Hamblin, Roy Rogers and Friends
Stuart Hamblin was the son of a Methodist preacher. His career as a country and gospel singer, songwriter, radio-movie personality began in 1926 on KAYO in Abilene, Texas. Three years later after winning a hundred dollars in a Dallas Talent Contest he recorded some songs for Victor. He then headed out to Hollywood auditioning for KFI going on the air as "Cowboy Joe" eventually joining the original "Beverly Hillbillies" one of radios first popular western singing groups. From 1931 t0 1952 his popularity continued on the West Coast with his radio programs and it was during this period he appeared in movies with Gene Autry, Roy Rogers and John Wayne. While on radio he wrote and recorded many songs that include: "It Is No Secret What God Can Do" recorded by Elvis Presley & The Jordanaires, Red Foley, Jo Stafford that charted in the Pop, Gospel and Country field. In 1950 his "Remember Me I'm The One Who Loves You" reached #2 staying there for 9 straight weeks. In 1954 his "This Ole House" went to #2 in the country field staying on the charts for 30 weeks while Rosemary Clooney's version went to #3 in the pop field being named "The Song Of The Year". In 2001 his "The Dirty Boogie" was recorded by Bryan Setzer released on a compact disc. Stuart Hamblin was inducted into The Nashville Songwriter's Hall Of Fame, received an Academy Of Country Music Pioneer Award, A Golden Boot Award and A Star on the Walk Of Fame in Hollywood. Carl Stuart Hamblin attended McMurray College in Abilene, Texas receiving a Teaching Degree.
