PAT GREEN
18 year old PAT GREEN began his music career while a student at Texas Tech in Lubbock. It was during his college days that he started playing gigs at small bars and clubs around campus. The eighth of nine siblings he first fell in love with music via stage musicals his father had appeared in and then as a teen discovered his home state’s rich country music heritage. In 1995, while in college, he borrowed money from friends and family making his first album. He soon caught the ear of Willy Nelson and began touring with him and other famous musicians. During these tours he began gaining much popularity with country music listeners playing to sold out shows in Texas sponsored by Miller Lite. Even more remarkable was the fact he sold 250,000 albums before signing his first major Label contract. Green’s up-beat songs and unassuming attitude had struck a chord with a generation of young Texans who were discovering their roots just as the singer had discovered his. Along the way he released 5 independent albums selling 200,000 in Texas along without the benefit of mainstream promotion or major label distribution. Green’s rise to prominence, which seemingly violated every accepted rule of music-industry success, helped carve out an unconventional route to success that would be emulated by a young generation of young Texas performers who followed. In an interview” I didn’t go into this business to get rich; I got into it because I love music and because I love people”. Pat Green: “I didn’t go into this business to get rich; I got into it because I love music and because I love people”. His single release “Wave On Wave” on a major label reached #3 on the Billboard Country Charts in 2003.
