DON WILLIAMS
Don began playing guitar as child learning from his mother. As a teen he played in a variety of Country, Rockabilly, Folk and Rock & Roll bands. After spending time in the Army he wrote “Down The Road I Go” that he pitched to Johnny Cash. While in Nashville he met Loften Kline and Susan Taylor forming The Pozo-Seco Singers recording 2 songs in the 60’s that reached the Top 40 in Country. Going solo in the 70’s Don established himself as a Country music star with 21 Top 40 hits including 10 that reached #1. In 1980 he was named “Country Music Star of the Decade in the UK. He appeared in two films “W.W. And The Dixie Dance Kings” & “Smokey And The Bandits 2”. In 1980 he recorded his biggest hit “I Believe In You” #1 Country and #24 Pop. From 1972 to 1992 Don racked up 56 hits with 17 reaching #1. In 1978 he was named “Male Vocalist of the Year” by The Country Music Association with his single “Tulsa Time” winning “Single of the Year”. In 1980 his album “I Believe In You” was awarded “Album of the Year”.
Bobby Bare, country singer, once wrote: “Don Williams is a person with talent and lots of soul, a kind person with depth with much love and concern for people, very honest and sincere”.
Donald Ray Williams was born in Floydada, Texas near Lubbock.
